Corning's downtown, branded Corning's Gaffer District after the historic glassblower called a gaffer, is a thriving community filled with restaurants, shops, glass studios, nightlife, and apartments in many historic, refurbished buildings.  Thanks to a blend of local entrepreneurs and community grants, downtown Corning boasts nearly 30 apartments in historic buildings ... some with a view of the adjacent Chemung River.
